Hi Easton...it's Ama,
Yesterday was Veteran's Day, and I wanted to tell you a little about your great grandfather, my dad and your dad's Paw Paw. He was a veteran of a very important war in our American history known as World War II. He served in the Army from 1940 until 1944. He was one of the ones who had to remain here in the states to help guard against attacks on the homefront from Japanese invaders who had attacked Pearl Harbor. You will one day study about that time in our history, but I just wanted you to know that you had a great grandfather who helped to defend our country and whom we all remember on Veteran's Day as a soldier of that war. He was on his way to Japan when the Japanese surrendered and the war ended, so he never saw actual battle, much to his families relief, but to his great disappointment. He ended up being stationed at the Japanese prisoner of war encampment after he arrived in Japan. He had many stories to tell of his time overseas, as well as his time serving in the military. He loved this country with all his heart, and would be greatly disheartened at some of the things that are happening in America today that do not reflect the patriotism of his day.
I wish with all my heart that he could have lived to know his great grandchildren. He would have been very proud of you ALL. Your dad always enjoyed spending time with Paw Paw. He loved his family very much, and his family loved him. Someday when you are older, I will tell you all about him.
Love you, Sweet Boy!
Ama
